Before I dive into things I've been learning that align with homesteading...I feel like we should first address what that even means.
What does that mean to you? When someone says they're a homesteading, what do you think of?
I think of a family that works hard to provide for themselves (and often others too). I think of being self-sufficient. Having a garden. Making bread from scratch. Having chickens. I also think of community. Being able to create something that you have/made and give it to someone in need. I think of providing a place where you feel safe and at peace.
Why would anyone want to do these things?
Because what if our grocery stores are out of things we need?
What if they start putting harmful things on our vegetables and there's no other options? Oh wait...
What if our efforts of making things more convenient for people has in turn also made things less nutritious, less humane, and more harmful for others and our planet?
What if others want us to rely on them for everything, so that they can control/scare/anger us more?
I want something better because of my love for myself, my family, and other humans.
I'm not here to do things out of fear. I'm here to do things differently because I'm tired of being deceived, lied to, and feeling like I'm incapable or unknowledgeable. I know we can do a heck of a lot of things when we step out in faith, trust, and love.
We are mighty and capable.
